Lake Garda Wedding Videographer: A Guide for Destination Couples

Lake Garda is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after alternatives for a destination wedding in Italy. The largest lake in the country stretches between Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino, and in a single day it can offer lemon houses and olive groves, medieval harbours, historic villas and mountains that drop straight into the water. For couples who dream of an Italian lake wedding but want more space, more choice of venues and a slightly different atmosphere from Lake Como, Lake Garda is an option worth considering.

As wedding videographers based in Milan, we film most of our weddings on Lake Como, and over the years we have seen more and more couples look east, towards Garda. This guide shares what we have learned filming there, and what to look for in a Lake Garda wedding videographer.

Why couples are choosing Lake Garda

Lake Garda has a broader, more varied landscape than the other Italian lakes. The southern shore is open and bright, with Sirmione and its castle reaching out into the water, while the northern part is narrow and dramatic, framed by the mountains of Trentino. Between the two, the western shore around Salò and Gardone Riviera is home to elegant Liberty-style hotels, historic gardens and some of the most exclusive venues on the lake.

For destination couples, this variety means more choice: private islands, hotels with lakeside terraces, villas with gardens, and venues that can host the whole wedding weekend. The lake is also easy to reach from the airports of Verona, Brescia, Bergamo and Milan.

A wedding on a private island: Isola del Garda

One of the most spectacular venues on the lake is Isola del Garda, a private island facing San Felice del Benaco, with a neo-Gothic Venetian-style villa surrounded by Italian gardens. Guests reach it only by boat, which turns the arrival into one of the most memorable moments of the day.

Watch a film from our portfolio: Lindsey and Elliott’s wedding at Isola del Garda.

For Lindsey and Elliott, the day began at Grand Hotel Fasano in Gardone Riviera, continued with a ceremony in the gardens of the island and a ride on a classic Riva boat, and ended with a party at Torre San Marco, with fireworks over the lake. It is a good example of how a Lake Garda wedding often moves between several places, and why the film needs to connect them into one story.

What makes filming on Lake Garda different

Lake Garda is large, and the distances between venues are real. A good videographer plans the timeline with you and your wedding planner in advance: transfers by boat or car, the time needed to move between the hotel, the ceremony and the reception, and the moments to set aside for portraits.

Light is the other key factor. The southern shore is open and receives warm light until late in the evening, while the northern shore falls into shade earlier because of the mountains. In the afternoon the lake is also known for its winds, which can make the water lively and affect boat rides and drone flights. We always check the weather and the local rules before planning aerial shots, and we keep a plan B ready for every outdoor moment.

Lake Garda or Lake Como?

Both lakes are extraordinary, and the right choice depends on the wedding you have in mind. Lake Como is more compact and famous for its historic villas, such as Villa del Balbianello, Villa d’Este and Villa Balbiano. Lake Garda offers wider views, a more varied landscape and venues that often have more space for the whole weekend, from welcome dinners to farewell brunches.

What to look for in a Lake Garda wedding videographer

  • Real weddings on the lake: ask to see complete films, not just short highlights, ideally filmed on Lake Garda or on the other Italian lakes.
  • Experience with boats and logistics: many Lake Garda weddings include boat transfers, and filming from one boat to another requires planning.
  • A discreet style: the best films are made by people who know when to step back, so that you can live your day without feeling directed.
  • Clear communication: if you are planning from abroad, make sure your videographer speaks your language and answers quickly.
