Lake Maggiore Wedding Videographer: A Guide for Destination Couples

Lake Maggiore is one of the most elegant and, for many couples, one of the most surprising wedding destinations in Italy. Less famous than Lake Como, it offers palaces and historic villas, the Borromean Islands with their baroque gardens, and a quieter, more spacious atmosphere, just an hour from Milan. More and more destination couples are choosing it as an alternative to Lake Como for a wedding that feels exclusive and personal.

As wedding videographers based in Milan, we film most of our weddings on the Italian lakes. This guide shares what makes Lake Maggiore special, what to consider when filming a wedding there, and one of our films on the lake.

Why couples are choosing Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore stretches between Piedmont, Lombardy and Switzerland. Its western shore, from Stresa to Belgirate, is lined with Belle Époque hotels and historic villas with gardens running down to the water. In front of Stresa, the Borromean Islands rise from the lake: Isola Bella, with its palace and terraced gardens, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori.

For couples, this means beautiful venues with space for the whole celebration, a calmer rhythm than the busiest parts of Lake Como, and easy access from Milan Malpensa airport, about forty minutes away.

A wedding between the Borromean Islands and Villa Claudia dal Pozzo

Watch a film from our portfolio: a wedding on Lake Maggiore at Villa Claudia dal Pozzo.

In this film, the ceremony took place in a frescoed church, and the newlyweds then crossed the lake on a classic wooden Riva boat, passing in front of Isola Bella and its gardens. The celebration continued at Villa Claudia dal Pozzo in Belgirate, with dinner on the terrace over the lake, the father-daughter dance at sunset and a party late into the night. Boat rides like this one are among the most cinematic moments of a Lake Maggiore wedding.

What makes filming on Lake Maggiore different

Lake Maggiore is wide and open, and the light changes beautifully over the day, with long golden sunsets on the eastern shore and soft evening light behind the mountains on the western side. We plan the timeline around this light, so that the boat ride, the portraits and the aperitivo happen in the most beautiful hours.

Many weddings on the lake move between a church or a villa, the islands and a lakeside reception, so the logistics of boats and transfers matter. Where the rules allow it, aerial footage shows the scale of the lake and the islands in a way that ground shots cannot. We always check the local regulations and the weather before planning drone flights.

Lake Maggiore or Lake Como?

Lake Como is narrower and more dramatic, with iconic villas such as Villa del Balbianello and Villa d’Este. Lake Maggiore is broader and more serene, with the Borromean Islands as its signature. Both are extraordinary, and the best way to choose is to look at real weddings filmed on each lake: take a look at our Lake Como wedding films and at our guide to weddings on Lake Garda, another lake that couples are discovering.

Frequently asked questions

Do you film weddings on Lake Maggiore?

Yes. We are based in Milan, about an hour from the lake, and we film weddings on Lake Maggiore as well as on Lake Como, Lake Garda and across Italy. Travel expenses are quoted separately, based on the location of your wedding.

Can you film a boat ride to the Borromean Islands?

Yes. Boat rides are one of our favourite moments to film. We plan them in advance with you and your wedding planner, so that we can film from the shore, from a second boat or from above where it is allowed.

How far in advance should we book?

Most couples book us 6 to 9 months before the wedding. The most popular dates in late spring and early autumn fill up quickly, so we recommend contacting us as early as possible.
